  • Vacancy Enrolled or Registered Nurse

Location: Pretoria North Medical Centre, Pretoria

Practice Type: Busy, Established General Practice

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (Shift-based, calculated over a 30-day month)

Salary: Market-related / Negotiable based on qualification and experience

About the Role & Environment

Dr Brink en Genote is seeking a dedicated, high-performing Enrolled Nurse (EN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic medical team. We operate a highly structured, fast-paced family practice focused on high ethical standards and excellent patient care.

We value a collaborative, respectful, and professional working environment. We seek a team player who is proactive, takes pride in their work, and contributes positively to a cohesive practice culture where every team member pulls their weight.

To ensure continuous care, staffing schedules are calculated over a 30-day month using a flexible shift roster. This structure accounts for varying weekly hours and rotating weekend duties, ensuring total hours do not exceed 195 hours per month.

Practice Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 07:00 – 18:00
  • Saturdays: 08:00 – 13:00
  • Sundays & Public Holidays: 09:00 – 12:00 (Closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day)

CRITICAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA (Please Read Carefully)

  • SANC Registration: Must be a fully qualified EN or RN with an up-to-date, active South African Nursing Council registration.
  • NOT A TRAINING FACILITY: We cannot accommodate or accept applications from Auxiliary Nurses, Caregivers, or Student Nurses.
  • Language Requirement: The position requires a candidate who is highly proficient in both English and Afrikaans to effectively communicate with our specific patient demographic.
  • Locality: This position is ideally suited for candidates currently living in Pretoria North or surrounding local areas. Due to the logistical risks of long-distance commuting and relocation, out-of-town candidates will only be considered if they are willing to perform a short-term locum trial first.

Key Duties & Clinical Responsibilities

Under the guidance and supervision of our resident doctors, you will manage:

  • Clinical Procedures: Pap smears, swabs, injections, ear syringing, phlebotomy (drawing blood), IV infusions, and advanced wound care.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Resting & Stress ECGs, lung function tests, and rapid diagnostics (Blood Glucose, Cholesterol, Lipids, Hb, Pregnancy, Urine Dipstix).
  • Doctor Assistance: Administering local anaesthetics and assisting GPs with minor surgical procedures and treatment in the treatment rooms.
  • Injury & Emergency Management: Assisting with the internal treatment of lacerations and uncomplicated fractures. Managing and stabilizing acute medical emergencies (e.g., suspected heart attacks, strokes, or severe allergic reactions) until emergency medical services arrive.
  • Practice Admin & Tech: Stock control, medical waste management, and keeping meticulous patient records on the practice billing system (GoodX experience is a major advantage).

What We Offer

  • Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) leave structure (15 days annual leave).
  • Structured monthly shift rosters capping work at 195 hours per month.
  • No night shifts.
  • Overtime paid for public holiday shifts; no other overtime is expected or required.
  • Freedom of Choice: We respect financial independence and do not force staff to subscribe to mandatory in-house pension or medical aid schemes.
